Willing Vessels of Light
Saturday, July 3rd, 2010“Let there be light,” reminiscent of this words God spoke in Gen.1:3, the Apostle Paul wrote in 1Cor.4:6-“For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.” This is how we came to life…God commanded and light shone in our hearts, God shone in our hearts. And who would not but live when this is done because the shining of the face of Christ will always mean one thing, and that is LIFE. “In him was life and that life was the light of men.”John 1:4.
Have you been into such a shining? Have you seen the face of Christ shining in your heart? Those who have will have 4 things to realize:
1. The desire to know God. “This is eternal life that they may know you…”John 17:3. The shining of God’s light in our hearts correspond to an act of God giving the knowledge of himself…of his glory that can only be realized in Christ Jesus. It’s like an initiation and yet an ongoing matter between God and the one who received. This will be most noticeable to one to whom God has shined…there will be a seeming insatiable desire for God. It’s as the singer sung it…“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirst for God, for the living God…”Ps.42:1-2.
2. The willingness of a vessel. The receiving of this light, of the knowledge of God’s glory in Christ is a receiving of a heavenly treasure. It is receiving life!, “But we have this treasure in jars of clay…” verse 7. This speaks of a purpose that has a time span because such a treasure should not be forever just fill these jars of clay. And jars of clay tends to break. They will be replaced. But what I’m saying is that for one who have been touched by the grace of God, to whom God’s light shined…there will be a realization of becoming a vessel-A willing vessel of Life!
3. A testimony of God’s power. This is what happens when a believer sees himself as just a vessel, a jar of clay…a broken jar of clay that God has mended. So you see the greatness of this that you have, a treasure like no other [Col.2:2-3], and you see yourself a broken jar of clay. How can this be possible but by God’s power alone. If we could just all realize that we are being held up by God’s power for one overriding purpose, overriding that is-it should always be priority because that is why power is to be displayed. Imagine that!… God’s power at work and being displayed through broken jars of clay! God alone does this kind of thing…he alone is able. There is nothing that are impossible with him…in and through all that desires to know him…they that are willing vessels for him. Praise the Lord! And this is why:
4. Christ mightily proclaimed! “For we do not preached ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord…”2Cor.4:5a. When there is that desire for God, to know God and when there’s that willingness of a vessel and God’s power mightily at work and being displayed…Christ Jesus is mightily being proclaimed. The display of the power of God is not so that we may have what we want but that God may have what he desires…and that is Jesus Christ proclaimed! And this always in keeping with our verse here-”For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give a s the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.”
You know man is like that, his heart is like that…in Genesis 1:2-“Now the earth was formless and empty, and darkness….” It will always need the shining of God’s light. And where are they that supposed to be shining God’s light?!
